MESSAGE FROM THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT
Dr. Emerita A. Barrenechea
|
For the past 2 years (2003-2005), I have been given the privilege of leading this Society and I am happy to say that during those two years I had made the society quite busy with activities. We had a number of bi-monthly lectures delivered in several different hospitals within Metro Manila and the provinces. We were also able to launch the inaugural issue of the Philippine Journal of Nuclear Medicine through Dr. Jerry M. Obaldo which features original articles in nuclear medicine in the Philippines as well as articles of clinical interest.

Dr. Emerita A. Barrenechea PSNM President 2003-2005 |
We were also able to maintain the Official Website of PSNM which enumerates the highlights of some of our activities. Last January 2004 and 2005, we were able to administer Specialty Board Exams in Nuclear Medicine through Dr. Antonio C. Garcia, it's Chairman.
During the 19th PSNM Convention, we were lucky to have Dr. Isabel Roca, an IAEA expert, who talked on Pediatric Nuclear Medicine, and Prof. Manfred Fischer who was awarded the Honorary Fellow title, a first for the PSNM for his significant contributions to the practice of nuclear medicine.
In 2003, a number of IAEA sponsored projects in Columbia, Malaysia, India and Vietnam were attended by our residents and consultants in order to enhance their training. Until March of 2004 we were encouraged to propose projects to IAEA. Those interested to apply could try sending their applications to the IAEA through Dr. Ajit Kumar Padhy.
We were also able to maintain local as well as international linkages through attendance in conventions and society meetings. This includes the attendance at the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, ARCCNM, Nuclear Cardiology, International Symposium on Nuclear Oncology, Thyroid, World Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Council, SNM, AOFNMB, PMA, PCP, and PNRI.
Even with all these achievements, there are still more to be done. We have to continue finding what is best for our graduates especially in the training curriculum. Based on the suggestions of the EANM, Computerized Tomography should be included in the training curriculum. We should also continue to be vigilant in our work especially on our proposal to the medical isotope committees of accredited hospitals in doing therapy. Finally, there is a need to preserve linkages with both local and international societies.
With all these achievements, let me thank everyone, especially the PSNM Officers and Board Members, the Philippine Specialty Board of Nuclear Medicine, and Dr. Teofilo O.L. San Luis, Jr., the PSNM Adviser. Love, just like any accomplishment, is how you stay alive even after you are gone.
